Visas

Visa and other consular services

All travelers, including Japanese citizens, are required to obtain visas in order to enter Mozambique, except those who hold passports of countries in the visa waiver program participants (South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Mauritius, Eswatini, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) and those who hold official/diplomatic passports of some countries (CPLP countries and Cuba).

The Embassy of the Republic of Mozambique has the honor to inform that, according to Decree No. 10/2023 of March 31, 2023, citizens holding ordinary passports from 29 countries*, including Japan and the Republic of Korea, who intend to travel to Mozambique for tourism and business purposes, are exempt from presenting entry visas.

*The 29 countries are: Canada, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Israel, United States, Russia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, United Kingdom, South Korea, Ivory Coast, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Singapore, Ghana, Senegal, Germany, France, Italy, China, Portugal, and Ukraine.

Citizens covered by this exemption are allowed multiple entries for a period of 30 days from the date of the first entry. This period may be extended for an additional 30 days, upon justification, and the request must be submitted through the website or at the Local Immigration Office in the area of accommodation.

This exemption does not exempt citizens from complying with the Legal Formalities Relating to Entry, Stay, and Exit applicable in the Republic of Mozambique, such as:

a) Be the holder of a passport with a remaining validity of no less than six (6) months;
b) The citizen cannot be in a situation of prohibition to enter the Republic of Mozambique;
c) Present a copy of the return flight ticket;
d) Present a copy of proof of accommodation.

Citizens eligible for the exemption regime must complete the pre-registration* through the website (www.evisa.gov.mz) at least 48 hours before departure.

*The pre-registration is temporarily suspended.

People who hold resident visas/status either in Japan, South Korea, Australia, or New Zealand are welcome to apply for visas through the Embassy of Mozambique in Tokyo. Please note that the decisions on visa issuance vary case by case, and it may take longer to grant visas depending on the applicant’s passport status and requested visa type.

Visas should be used at least once within 60 days from the date of issue.

The validity of single entry visas is 2 months from the date of issue, and the validity of multiple entry visas is 3 months from the date of issue. The maximum period of stay in Mozambique is 30 consecutive days per entry for both single entry visas and multiple entry visas.

Arrival tourist visas

Arrival tourist visas are now available at border posts, including international airports in Mozambique, for those who originate from countries where there is no Embassy/Consulate of Mozambique. If you are considering obtaining a visa on arrival, please contact your airline company in advance to see if visa-free boarding is possible.

Visitors who originate from countries where there is a Mozambican Embassy/Consulate should apply for the proper type of visa before traveling.

Note: The Embassy does not accept visa applications by mail sent from within Japan, so applicants or their proxies need to apply directly and personally at the Embassy. If you are Japanese, South Korean, Australian, or New Zealand passport holders, and other foreign nationals living in South Korea, Australia, or New Zealand, you can apply for a visa by using a courier. Please contact us via email at: moz.consular@embamoc.jp before applying for a visa at our embassy. Please note that the return shipping cost (DHL Express service or other courier services) must be paid by the applicant.
